Artwork by David Hammerberg
David is an artist, healer, and spiritual practitioner whose work is rooted in transformation. His creative path began with photography in his youth, shaped by architecture, landscapes, and the desire to capture beauty from unexpected angles. Years later, during cancer treatment, drawing became a place of refuge—a way to reclaim his body, his identity, and his voice. What began as graphite sketches evolved into a vivid phoenix tattoo and eventually into the acrylic paintings that would define his current artistic practice.
Self-taught and guided by intuition rather than formal training, David allows each piece to unfold organically. He often begins with a single color or impulse, letting texture, shadow, and movement emerge on their own terms. His work spans abstract expressionism, surrealism, cubist influence, and optical illusion, unified by a commitment to emotional truth. His compositions frequently draw from muted or atmospheric tones, punctuated by color that reflects internal shifts—fear, catharsis, memory, revelation, joy.
Much of David’s art carries the imprint of his personal history. Pieces like “Abandoned,” with its quiet, haunting light and stark imagery, speak to formative experiences while inviting viewers into their own emotional landscapes. Whether portraying complex themes or moments of quiet simplicity, his work is driven by a desire to evoke feeling rather than dictate meaning.
As a spiritual practitioner, David’s healing work informs his art as deeply as his art informs his healing. He approaches people the same way he approaches the canvas: meeting them exactly where they are, creating a space of safety, presence, and authenticity. For many, his presence alone becomes a catalyst for introspection and emotional release. He does not seek recognition for this role; he simply answers when he is called. His art carries that same purpose—offering solace, confrontation, and connection in ways both subtle and profound.
For David, the story is not where he has been, but who he has become: someone who transforms adversity into creation, silence into voice, and experience into color. His work encourages viewers to feel deeply, honor their own truths, and embrace the beauty woven through the human experience.
